Introduction

Once bedridcen, many often find themselves feeling that it is hard to live a full life.

OryLab, whose mission is to alleviate human loneliness,
has been conducting experiments since 2012 alongside individuals with severe disabilities to create a society where, even if bedridden, one can meet those they wish to see, work alongside peers, gain independence and live true to oneself.

In a time where people live longer than ever, we will all be bedridden at one point in our life. We therefore respectfully refer to our colleagues with disabilities as our seniors in life, since they are already living in the future that awaits most us. Despite these seniors, there is yet to be a defined way for how to live life after being confined to a bed.
We believe that in searching for a life past being bound, together with our bedridden seniors, we can find this new way of life.

In 2020, the whole world came to a halt and many became confined to their homes.
The inability to go to places that we used to take for granted has resulted in many of us to lose our sense of community. Thus, new encounters and discoveries became scarce, and the search for how to keep a sense normalcy began to emerge. Casting a light on how many of our seniors have been living so far.

Could OriHime be part of the answer to the new way of life past the pandemic?
Could people with disabilities participate in society as themselves, meet new people, and earn salaries?
Can we all, disabled and able-bodied, find new communities and participate whilst being confined to our homes?
During the pandemic, the line between "disabled" and "able-bodied" became blurred. All of these questions have became of importance and their answers indispensable. In 2021, after the worldwide confinement started, we took a bold step forward by establishing our permanent cafe.
Where we are right now conducting an experiment to bring forth a new age, where we shape a new society together, for both those of us who can move about freely, and those who cannot. In doing so, we hope to create a shared sense of community and good memories even in difficult times come upon us again.

Please look forward to all our new ventures.
